Truck drivers cantransform from just drivers to life-saving heroes, as proven by 20 truckdrivers who have undergone traffic rescue training. The ‘Truck Rescuer’ (Pol.TIR Ratownik) campaign was organized by Sobiesław and Ewa Zasada’s ‘SzerokiejDrogi’ Foundation.
Half the lives ofthe car accident victims could have been saved by a quick reaction from all thebystanders, since the average time of 10 minutes passes between the accidentand the arrival of the emergency services. During this crucial time, the peopleharmed and injured in the car accidents can count on help. Before the ambulancearrives on the scene, there may be a truck driver right there or nearby. Havingbeen trained as part of the ‘Truck Rescuer’ programme, the truck driver willpossess professional skills attested by the ‘Polish Automobile and MotorcycleFederation’s Traffic Rescuer’ qualification.
During the projectinauguration on April 13th in Tęgoborze (near Nowy Sącz), SobiesławZasada stressed the importance of being careful while on the road. ‘The mostimportant thing is to avoid danger and prevent the accident. Though, one shouldbe always prepared and cautious. I dream of every driver being able to provideprofessional first aid in case of encountering an accident’.
‘The purpose ofthe project is to shorten the time in which qualified services arrive on thesite of the accident. There are 250,000 trucks on Polish roads. As part of our ‘TruckRescuer’ campaign, we intend to train drivers, so that they would always beready to provide professional help, wherever they may be. We also want to raiseawareness in regard to first aid’, adds Marcin Małysz, president of Sobiesławand Ewa Zasada’s ‘Szerokiej Drogi’ Foundation.
