Sobiesław Zasada took the first place in the 56th Żubry Rally in Zakopane on Saturday 21.10.2023. The most decorated Polish racer drove a Porsche 911 Dakar RED58 Special, a car deliberately prepared as a tribute to Zasada’s participation in the 1968 London-Sydney rally.
Lined up on the starting line were 98 crews, competing in five classifications. The rally route covered the roads of Podhale and was over 200 kilometres long, including 10 trials, each about 2 kilometres long.
During the special stages of the rally, Sobiesław, like in the old days, use the full potential of a car of his favourite brand, Porsche. Tight turns, harsh braking, speeds of over 200 km/h—this was truly an emotional and spectacular rally, with true mastership of the driver displayed.
The start/finish line was located at the Bachleda Hotel Kasprowy in Zakopane.
Sobiesław Zasada himself initiated the Żubry Rally. In 1966, when he won his first Europe championship—at that time equivalent to world championship—he came up with the idea of creating an event for former racers, activists, and seniors from the automotive world: the żubry, or bisons.
