Volkswagen is one of the most popular car brands on the European market, second only to Toyota in terms of global sales in 2018. Those German cars are extremely popular not only in Germany, but also in many other European and non-European countries, and in many market segments Volkswagen models are among the top performers.

Today, the Volkswagen Group is the largest automotive company in the world. It also owns other automotive companies such as MAN and Scania (producing trucks) and Ducati (producing motorbikes). It has more than 300,000 employees worldwide. However, most Volkswagen cars are still built in Germany.

The company's headquarters are now in Wolfsburg, and its factory located in the same city was the first ever to take pride in reaching the production of over 33 million cars (in 2001).
